What Kihachiro Onitsuka didn’t know in 1949, when he started sewing shoes in his living room, was that he was making a whole lot more than a shoe. He was giving his native Kobe, Japan, optimism and purpose. You see, Mr. Onitsuka believe that an active lifestyle was key to a strong mind, a strong heart and a strong community. ASICS is an acronym derived from Anima Sana In Corpore Sano, a Latin phrase meaning; “A Sound Mind in a Sound Body.” It’s an ancient ideal on which Mr. Onitsuka lived his life and built a company. And build he did.
